01. The Brief
Lancashire & South Cumbria’s maternity system needed a single, accessible digital space that would support staff at every stage of their career journey—from onboarding to advanced clinical practice. With information spread across multiple trusts, universities and specialist teams, staff often struggled to locate up-to-date guidance, training materials and resources.
The brief was to design and develop a unified digital staff resource that would:
- Provide consistent, system-wide information
- Support learning, development and clinical practice
- Offer resources relevant to both staff and families
- Reflect and reinforce the region’s strategic maternity priorities
- Be developed collaboratively with local universities, system partners and education specialists
The aim was to create a tool that improved staff experience, strengthened system alignment and ultimately supported safer, more consistent maternity care across the region.
02. The Solution
We created a comprehensive digital staff resource hub built around the real needs of maternity professionals. Working closely with the maternity system leadership, local universities and subject-matter experts, we consolidated essential guidance, training pathways, clinical resources and best-practice information into a single, easy-to-navigate platform.
Key features included:
- Structured onboarding pathways for new starters
- Clinical support tools and up-to-date guidance aligned across trusts
- Learning and development resources, including links to academic programmes, CPD opportunities and competency frameworks
- Family-focused resources to help staff provide consistent information across the region
- A clear connection to the system vision and strategies, ensuring the resource reflected shared priorities and future workforce needs
The hub was designed to grow with the system, allowing regular updates, new content and evolving clinical guidance to be added easily.
