Dave Takes the Mic at the Local Swimming Gala

Supporting Community Sport

Dave had the absolute pleasure of being the announcer at the Clitheroe Dolphins Gala – and it was a first for him too!! 🐬🏊

What a brilliant experience from start to finish.

Swapping his usual day-to-day work for a poolside microphone, Dave stepped into the fast-paced world of heats, lane calls, false starts, and photo finishes. From the early morning warm-ups to the final relay of the day, the atmosphere was electric, packed with proud families, nervous swimmers, and plenty of poolside excitement. Being the voice guiding the event, announcing competitors, celebrating personal bests, and keeping the energy high was an experience he won’t forget in a hurry.

Away from his professional role, Dave was incredibly proud to give back by volunteering in our local community. Events like this are a powerful reminder of just how much passion, planning and teamwork go into making them happen. Behind every smooth-running race is an army of dedicated volunteers giving up their time.

A huge shoutout to the amazing Clitheroe Dolphins volunteers who make it all possible, from timekeepers and marshals to organisers, officials, and poolside helpers. The coordination, encouragement, and positivity they bring create such a supportive environment for every swimmer stepping up to the blocks. It’s no small task, and they absolutely smash it every time.

For now, Dave is hanging up the microphone… but only briefly! With 2–3 more galas coming up, he’ll be back poolside before long, bright and early 6am setoffs, sauna-like heat, and the soundtrack of cheering (and occasionally screaming!) families. What’s not to love? 💛

“Commentating is great fun – even if a few of those names still test my pronunciation skills!” 🎤
